DNA is not the only chain of information that defines our species. Nicole Wilson has minted digital tattoo files for 61 tattoos, which derive from those detected on the body of Ötzi, a Bronze Age wet mummy exposed by the melting of ice in the Ötztal Alps. She had the designs tattooed on her own body, in locations corresponding to the mummy’s, adjusting for scale, and using her own blood instead of ink. She then photographed them.
