The original image is a still from Gordon Parks’ film The Learning Tree, based on his semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. The Learning Tree was the first major Hollywood film to be directed by a Black director. Gordon also adapted the screenplay and scored the film. This body of work was created as part of Hank Willis Thomas’ collaboration with the Gordon Parks Foundation.
