Praise Shadows Art Gallery is honored to present Let Love Quiet Fear, a group exhibition organized by For Freedoms. In conversation with The Embrace, a new monument on the Boston Common by Hank Willis Thomas, this exhibition commemorates the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., and meditates on his concept of agape — the highest form of love that can only be known when we allow ourselves to let go of fear and anger, and recognize our innate interconnectedness. The exhibition is on view January 12 through February 12, and is one of several events related to the unveiling of The Embrace, commissioned by Embrace Boston, on January 13.

The artists included in the exhibition highlight the urgent need to rediscover the precedence of love in the midst of current cultural, environmental and political crises. They include artists from Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C.: Paul Briggs, Erin Genia, Eric Gottesman, Ekua Holmes, DA Mekonnen, Helina Metaferia, Jo Nanajian, Kiyomi Quinn Taylor, Hank Willis Thomas, and Yu-Wen Wu.

In addition to the exhibition, the public is invited to join a For Freedoms Town Hall at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum at 2 pm on Monday, January 16, as part of their Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. This event takes inspiration from Dr. King’s legacy, the Gardner’s Titus Kaphar: Jerome Project exhibition, and The Embrace by Thomas. Artists and thought leaders Hank Willis Thomas, Erin Genia, Eric M. Anderson, with moderator Yng-Ru Chen of Praise Shadows Art Gallery, will discuss art, memory, civic engagement, and justice. Timed entry museum admission is free and advance registration is required. Seating for the Town Hall is first come, first served and masks are required in the Museum’s auditorium.
